I know it was just a cg trailer but Evolution looks like it’ll go more for insane dinosaur rampages when things go wrong. As much as it’s due to the lack of proper AI to make the dinosaurs do more than walk around, the demo is really relaxing to play! It’s all warm colours and chill music and pretty dinosaurs.
PK also feels like it’s just going to be much less intense than Evolution to me. I was going to do a long post on each but you’ve summed it up perfectly. Even though they’re in the same genre, they’re pretty different and have had an indie fanbase slowly growing for years, I think they’ll be fine. prehistoric kingdom Prehistoric Kingdom is more Zoo Tycoon-y than JPOG-y, has a completely different aesthetic and probably gameplay, and has the accurate dinosaur crowd to fall back upon.

The Prehistoric Kingdom demo is currently available for free on Steam. Honestly I can understand why you’d come to this dinosaur park (despite all the ‘isn’t it a bad idea’ memes) because it’s actually a nice place to visit. I’m super keen to see this system get expanded on in future.Īlso overall it’s got a really relaxing atmosphere! Admittedly that’s partly because the AI has no ability to be violent, but everything feels so chill in this game. You can see in the above screencaps that I went a little nuts with them. What I’m particularly impressed by are the rocks there’s only a few but there’s tools to transform them into a crazy variety of shapes.
Raising/lowering terrain works just like it does in games like Zoo Tycoon, as does painting on swathes of foliage (and biomes, eventually). I’m enjoying the options for creating interesting exhibits. AI is limited to wandering and feeding, so no violent interactions are possible. I’m particularly impressed that the demo has the different growth stages morphing into each other over time, as well as chances for albino and melanistic variations. So I’ve been playing the Prehistoric Kingdom demo a bit and I’ve got some thoughts.įirst of all, the dinosaurs are great.
